Im slightly mechanically inclined and i know how to read a build book tear down and rebuild to spec, but id like to know if im missing something, if theres anything else i should check, and what possibly could have caused this. I will be resetting timing, doing a compression test, and eyeing my thermostat and timing belt tensioner if i can get it set back up. I pulled the timing cover and what i see is a jumped tooth. As soon as i pulled over it died and wouldnt even crank because the battery was so drained. About 5mins into the drive i noticed a clunking noise, overheating again and would not go faster not matter how much throttle i gave it. Eventually after reseting my ecu i was able to get it barely started back up (had to give it gas while turning over) to which is started up and didnt sound too weird. Car did not want to start back up was very slow to turn over and even pop starting didnt work. Upon pulling over, coolant had overflown from the excess reservoir and onto the manifold causing minimal smoke. This was about 20 min into the 45 min of which was normal highway speeds not a lick over (i got a ticket doing 152 in a 65 and on 6 month probation). I was otw home about a 45min drive when the car started acting real weird, wanting to die, eventually started overheating and died right after i pulled over. We do not recommend the use of any other brand roller with this product besides Subaru OEM, which comes at a substantially higher cost.I need a bit of help trying to figure out where my beloved scooby went wrong. The IAG "WRC Style" V2 Tensioner uses NTN OEM style rollers to ensure the reliability of the product. Not all rollers are created equal and some fail prematurely. IAG is not only a manufacturer but also a service facility with extensive experience with timing rollers and idlers. Made from billet aluminum, the base is CNC machined in-house and anodized black for corrosion protection. The IAG "WRC Style" V2 Tensioner uses a combination of proven parts from older Subaru vehicles and an additional roller to control belt timing and tension. We experienced no further instances of timing belt skip. With this tensioner installed the problem was solved. After considerable testing and proving on that STI road-race car, we performed testing on several other road-race and drag applications to further prove the product. This led us to develop a tensioner that would hold the belt tightly in place and accurately control timing. In the past few years, our Subaru GD STI road-race car that uses a sequential transmission skipped time several times. However, in some cases, this can cause catastrophic engine failure. If your engine skips time the repair might be as simple as resetting the belt. This would, in turn, cause the engine to skip time. The latest OEM Subaru tensioners work well for mild performance applications, but when used on vehicles with sequential transmissions or on high-revving engines, the tensioner may lose its ability to control the belt.
